CHESTERTON GIRLS SWIM & DIVE DELIVERS STRONG PERFORMANCE AT IHSAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS Chesterton, IN – The Chesterton High School girls swim and dive team wrapped up an impressive showing at the IHSAA Girls Swimming & Diving State Championships held Feb. 13–14 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, earning a seventh-place team finish against the state’s best programs. The Trojans were highlighted by three top-five relay finishes and outstanding individual performances, especially from sophomore Brenley Bonez, who reached the podium with a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke and added a fourth in the 50-yard freestyle. Bonez also contributed to relay success with a fifth-place medal in both the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays. Junior Adalyn Laughner also had a standout meet, earning a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and accumulating valuable points in the 200 individual medley. Both athletes were recognized on the medal stand by Chesterton Athletic Director and IHSAA Board Member Jeff Hamstra. Freshmen Brynn Law and Reese Kellstrom, along with seniors Peyton Ostertag and Tegan Werner, helped secure additional medals through relay contributions, with Reese earning individual points in the 100-yard freestyle and Werner posting a solid effort in the 50-yard freestyle. The Trojans finished seventh overall with 138 team points, competing against powerhouse programs including Carmel High School, which claimed its 40th consecutive state title with 326.5 points. Chesterton’s result marked the team’s second consecutive top-10 state finish, an achievement not seen since the Hall of Fame era under former coach Kevin Kinel. Head Coach Jenni Kellstrom praised the team’s effort: “Very proud of them. They had a phenomenal two days — top five in all three relays and more than achieved our goal of a top-eight finish.” The 2025–26 season reflected the depth and development of the Chesterton program, with strong contributions from veterans and exciting performances from rising underclassmen. for the full article written by Tom Keegan https://www.onwardtrojans.com/24-25-stories/girlsstateswim021526
