Plainfield High School defeated the Chesterton varsity baseball team 16-4 down in Kokomo at the Bullpen X baseball tournament on Saturday. The game time was pushed back four hours due to heavy rain in the area forcing the Trojans to kill time doing indoor activities. Once the game finally started, Dylan Bradford(1.1IP, 4H, 9R, 9ER, 3BB, 4K) took the ball on the bump. The senior right hander poured in seven strikes on nine pitches and made the first two hitters grab some bench with backward K's. The Plainfield 3 and 4-hole hitters would reach via the base on balls and hit by pitch respectively bringing Doyle to the plate. The tall, lengthy, left hander connected on a fastball hitting a wind aided three run homer over the right centerfield fence. Bradford would retire the next hitter on strikes to end the top half of the first. The Trojans managed a hit in the home half off the bat of Rob Czarniecki(2-3, RBI, K) but he would be stranded there. Plainfield would turn the game on its head in the second after sending twelve batters to the plate to the tune of six runs running their tally to nine runs. You just knew it wasn't the Trojans day when sophomore G Kirkland(1-3,R) reached on an error and then was called for interference for sliding into the second baseman at second base trying to field an errant throw by the third baseman who gloved the grounder hit by Eli McClelland(0-3, R, K). Even though the throw sailed into right field both Kirkland and McClelland were ruled out. Isaiah Prater(2-2, RBI) singled sharply to left which would have likely plated Kirkland with runners at first and second and no outs. Mike Szostek(1-2, RBI, K) went down on strikes to end the frame. Logan Chestovich(2.2IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 4BB, K) pitched well in relief of Bradford and tamed the Plainfield hitters in the third surrendering a harmless seeing eye single up the middle. Sully Fleming(0-1, R, BB, K) got things started drawing a lead-off walk and advanced to second on a pitch that found the backstop leading off the bottom of the third. Fleming wasn't there long when Czarniecki legged out an infield single to plate Fleming who scored on the throw to first. Chestovich sent Plainfield down in order in the fourth to get his team quickly back into the dugout to hit. The Trojans bats responded with two runs of their own on three hits. Kirkland lead off with a knock to left and McClelland followed by reaching on an error. Prater dug in the right hand batters box and belted the 1-1 offering to the track in left center to drive home Kirkland(0.1, 2H, 4R, 3ER). Szostek got in on the action and served an RBI single to the opposite field bringing "Chowder" in from third for Chesterton's third run of the ball game. Plainfield would push seven runs across in the visitors half of the fifth to dash any hopes of a Trojans comeback with a now 13 run advantage. John Knight finished the game on the hill with a line of 0.2IP, 2H, R and also told the ball good Knight in his last plate appearance as it flew off his bat and into woods beyond the left field wall for a solo round tripper, his first of the season to round out the scoring. The loss drops the Trojans below .500 at one win and two losses with conference games beginning on Tuesday when they travel to Merrillville to take on the Pirates at 4:30 pm.
