Playing in the second of three games in the Joe Heath Classic, the Trojans made their way to Loeb Stadium to take on Lafayette Jefferson. Dylan Bradford(3.1, 5H, 3R, 2ER, 4BB, 2K) was the next guy up for the Trojans because we take turns and share at Chesterton. He would have to wait his turn until the Trojan batters played with the Jeff pitcher. Rob Czarniecki,(3-4, 2R, RBI, 3B) who got the first go of the game didn't play nice. Czarniecki hit the ball way too hard and too far for the center fielder to catch it and he had to run all the way to the fence that was 415 feet away from home plate. The future University of Kentucky star ran really fast all the way to third. His friend Troy Barrett(1-2, R, RBI, 2B) also hit the ball well down the left field line where the outfielder helped Barrett get to third after he got to second by making the ball go into the bullpen area. Next one to take a turn with the bat was Eli McClelland(1-3,R, 2RBI, BB, K) who hit it soft enough for the shortstop to catch it and throw it to first to score Barrett. Ironically, the next two players who both have a last name that starts with a K, K'd, because John Knight(0-4, RBI, 2K) and G Kirkland(0-3, BB, 2K) felt bad for the opposing pitcher after the Trojans scored two runs. Bradford thought it was only fair to allow Jeff to score twice since we did so he hit the first batter and walked the second then allowed their teammates to hit the ball in various ways so they could see what it was like to touch home plate too. Only three Chesterton hitters got to play in their half of the second inning so unfairly, Lafayette Jeff got a turn again. Bradford would let their first batter touch home since he ran quickly to first base and beat that bad throw by an infielder. Bradford would then say that was all he was going to give them and then he let Ethan Glassman(0-3, BB, 2K--3.2IP, 2H, BB, K) have fun with the Jeff hitters after he pitched 3-1/3 innings already. In the third frame Czarniecki again hit the ball where no one could catch it. This time Isaiah Prater(1-2, R, BB, K, 3B) got to step on home plate since he ran really fast to third when he hit the ball to the tall, padded wall in left field. McClelland thought it was fun watching Czarniecki run fast to the dish so he hit the ball to center for a ribbie. With us scoring 5 times to their 3 it meant we were winning. Since winning is fun Cam Campbell(0-2, R, BB, K) took four unfair pitches and walked to first, then walked to second, then walked to third, then, to get his steps in for the day he walked home, NOT HOME it's too far from Lafayette, making it 6-3 nice guys. Czarniecki, again, hit it away from the other boys and for that he got to wear a large "C" hanging from the chain like necklace for one game. Ethan Glassman got to wear a hard hat, not for safety, but since he can catch and throw the ball really well. The Trojans boarded the bus and had fun riding the bus to Lafayette Harrison High School where the details will be in another story. The Trojan boys had more fun than the other teams 5 times and less fun than the other team 3 times so far this season after winning this fun game 6-3.
