The Chesterton boys track and field team finished fifth at the IHSAA State Finals, the second-best state meet finish in program history. The Trojans were led by a pair of state runner-up relay performances. The 4x100-meter relay team of Weston Moore, Louis Raffin, Cal Wisniewski and Nathan Vaughan placed second in 40.65, just .05 seconds behind the state champions. The time broke the previous state meet record and ranks as the second-fastest time in Indiana history. The 4x400-meter relay team of Nathan Vaughan, Cal Wisniewski, Ben Phillips and Louis Raffin also earned runner-up honors in 3:15.76. The performance broke the school record the group set earlier this season and was .27 seconds behind the state champion time of 3:15.49. Vaughan earned four state medals, placing second in both relays, fifth in the long jump (23-9.75) and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (38.09). He becomes the first Chesterton boys track and field athlete in school history to earn four medals at a single IHSAA State Finals meet. Additional state meet performances included Louis Raffin placing 14th in the 300-meter hurdles (39.03), Cal Wisniewski placing 21st in the long jump (21-5.75), and the 4x800-meter relay team of Spencer Martin, Zarek Sierazy, Will Roberson and Ray Hundt placing 20th in 8:02.66. "This was an incredible finish to what was already an outstanding season," Head Coach Bryan Nallenweg said. "To come away with two state runner-up finishes and a fifth-place team finish is a testament to the hard work these guys have put in since day one. Nathan earning four state medals is a fitting way to cap off what may be the most decorated track and field career in school history. I'm also so happy for Louis and Cal to be able to finish their careers with performances like these. I can't say enough about what all the seniors have meant to this program and the standard they've helped establish. I'm proud of every athlete who competed on Saturday. It was a tremendous way to finish a fantastic season."
